Asia knows me better than I know myself - for that I am truly grateful.
After Tejan left us in April of 2008, I began to make plans almost immediately for our family to be able to go. It seemed an almost impossible task, but I knew how important it would be for us as a family to take our relationship with T. full circle... to go visit him in his home country... get to know his 'family' there.
As time went by, however, I became overwhelmed by the fact that it would likely take us years to save the money needed to make the trip with the five of us.
Asia sensed my desperation and told me he wanted me to go. Alone. To see Tejan in his home and meet his house mother. He knew I needed to put my heart at rest - to know, as his 'mother' that he was well cared for and safe and to be able to picture him in his own environment.
So, in November of 2008, I made the trip to Sierra Leone.
It was life changing.
And it gave me the peace I needed.
I cannot wait to go back. To show the kids everything I saw.
